This area is located just east of Westmount's border and immediately adjacent to Montreal downtown, specifically Montreal's Golden Square Mile. In many cases, one cannot tell by the houses that there is a change in municipality because in some cases the border seems to be arbitrarily defined in the middle of some streets (one can tell by the change in public lighting fixtures, street signs and in civic address numbers).
Generally this prestigious area of Montreal which borders Westmount is located north of Sherbrooke Street to an area just north of The Boulevard, with its axis around Atwater. At one time much of this land belonged to religious institutions which is of note since from a feng shui perspective, religious institutions own(ed) land in the best locations.
Besides the older gracious heritage homes which can be detached, semi-detached or townhomes, this area includes the luxury condo project Manoir de Belmont, which in the late 1980's incorporated an older (1910) building from the Sulpicians and newer (ie 2002+) luxury housing projects of townhouses and detached houses.
The 165 bus going north and south on Cote-des-Neiges is useful here as well as the 24 bus on Sherbrooke Street. Atwater metro is an easy walk. The College de Montreal is located just east on Sherbrooke and other schools are found in adjacent Golden Square Mile to the east and Westmount to the west. Universities- McGill , Concordia, University of Montreal and Dawson College CEGEP are easily accessible by walking or public transit. The Montreal General Hospital is nearby.
Shops and services are located at Greene Ave in Westmount, Alexis Nihon Plaza or the many upsaale department stores (Holt Renfrew, Olgiviy s) or chic boutiques in downtown Montreal.
