Montreal - Southwest & Lachine Canal

Montreal’s Southwest (le Sud-Ouest) consists of the neighborhoods of Griffintown, Little Burgundy, St-Henri and Pointe St-Charles and is located just to the southwest of downtown Montreal. These neighborhoods are centered around the Lachine Canal with Griffintown, Little Burgundy and St-Henri to the north and Pointe St-Charles to the south.

Montreal Southwest is a sought after area :

  • Downtown Montreal is easily reachable by walking, taking the metro (subway) or by the Bixi bike system.

  • Lachine Canal offers vistas, green space and recreational opportunities, extending from Old Montreal to the east and Lachine to the west. In 2009, Time magazine named the 11 km (7.5 mile) bicycle/mulitpurpose path the 3rd most beautiful urban circuit in the world. Pedalos and kayaks are available for rent as well. In winter, if conditions are favorable, there is cross country skiing. This path forms part of the larger 100 km paths of the Pole des Rapides which also touches the shores of the Lawrence River in Verdun, Nun's island and Parc Jean Drapeau, through the streets of Westmount (de Maisonneuve).

  • Atwater market (this much loved farmer’s market) is popular with all Montrealers with the abundance of fresh regular and organic produce, butchers, Premiere Moisson bakery & café, plants in the spring and Christmas trees in the winter.

  • Notre Dame St. and surroundings is home to hip restaurants such as Joe Beef, Foxy, le Richmond, Burgundy Lion. You will also find antique stores and the gorgeous historic Corona theatre.

  • Exciting vibe of the neighborhood itself with the conversion of lofts for those involved in the arts, design, multimedia, publishing, dance & yoga.

  • Abundance of different types of affordable luxury real estate.
